Can environmental policy succeed without public trust?

HHappy OrbisPublicado Actualizado

People are much more likely to support change when they understand why it is happening, what it will cost and whether it will actually work.

Trust cannot simply be demanded.

What makes you trust — or distrust — environmental decisions?

A public meeting held after every important choice has been made rarely feels like participation. Neither does a promise without a way to check the outcome. Trust may depend on admitting uncertainty, explaining trade-offs and being willing to change course when evidence changes. Please share an example of a decision handled well, or describe what you would have needed to feel heard.

• When should residents be involved? • What information must be public? • How should mistakes be acknowledged?
