Oceans, climate and forests receive enormous attention.

Soil often does not.

Yet food production, biodiversity, water retention and entire ecosystems depend on healthy soil.

Why is soil still one of the least discussed parts of environmental protection?

You do not need to own a farm to notice soil. A garden that dries out quickly, a field losing material after heavy rain or a park where nothing grows can all raise questions. The causes differ, so local experience should start an investigation rather than settle it. Farmers, gardeners and researchers may each notice something the others miss.
