Should we measure environmental progress differently?

HHappy Orbis已发布 更新时间

Governments publish countless targets and statistics.

But which indicators actually tell ordinary people whether their environment is improving?

Cleaner rivers?

Better air?

More wildlife?

Less waste?

Healthier soil?

What should we measure if we genuinely want to know whether things are getting better?

A number becomes more useful when people know its starting point and what it leaves out. A national average can improve while a particular neighbourhood gets worse. Short-term weather can also obscure a longer change. We would like to compare a small set of understandable measures with enough context to prevent easy but misleading claims of success.

• Which result matters in daily life? • How often should it be measured? • Who should check the published figures?
