HAPPY ORBIS OCEAN GRID / RESEARCH

Many instruments. One ocean.

A future interoperability layer for floats, buoys, gliders, research ships and partner sensors.

01

Connect existing observations

Begin with established open networks. Preserve the original instrument identifier, owner and provenance.

02

Keep depth and time intact

A surface satellite retrieval and a profile at 1,000 metres are different observations. Do not merge them into one unexplained value.

03

Quality before quantity

Retain calibration, quality flags, sampling method and uncertainty. Flag duplicate records and revised data.

04

Network status

No Happy Orbis sensor network is operational. Partner-owned instruments will never be displayed as our own fleet.
